A few benefits to stand-up comedy classes even if you don't want to be an actual comedian:
1. HELPS WITH PRESENTATION SKILLS/THINK ON YOUR FEET
Performing stand-up comedy REQUIRES you to get and maintain complete strangers’ attention. The skills taught in our classes to help you perform more effectively are the same skills used to convey talking points to your co-workers and superiors.
2. HELPS WITH OTHER KINDS OF CREATIVE “CHORES”
Stand-up comics have to prepare their own material for presentation. Our classes teach you how to maximize your creativity by understanding not just the biology of creativity, but proven methods to help you hone those skills. Our classes will show you how to turn those ideas that hit you while you’re driving down the street or right as you fall asleep into something usable and how to strengthen your mind so that it can perform better and to increase its efficiency. Coming up with creative solutions like how to best write and perform a joke for maximum effect will help you figure out other creative solutions, such as the best way to ask your boss for a raise or how to get creative “finding” new money for the budget.
3. OPENS YOUR MIND TO IDEAS, COMEDIC AND OTHERWISE, YOU MAY NOT HAVE BEEN AWARE OF
Not everyone thinks the same, has had the same experiences, or shares the same views. Stand-up comics often ask difficult questions, share taboo and unpopular opinions, and very personal experiences because stand-up comics don't judge each other for our differences, flaws, and short comings. We're always exploring them, discussing them, trying to understand them, so that we can laugh at them.
4. TIME MANAGEMENT AND GOAL ACTUALIZATION
There’s a saying that goes, “If you want something done right away, ask a busy person to do it.” We get more stuff done when we're busy. This includes errands and chores that are unrelated to comedy or writing. It takes time to be proficient at anything. And time is finite. You’ll have to learn to budget your time to squeeze in another non-essential activity like learning to perform stand-up. That’s a good thing. Not only are you doing more social things, the feeling of accomplishment is addictive. Be careful: after trying stand-up comedy you just might be empowered to jump out of airplanes or lose that last 20 pounds!
